Principal's Message

Thank you to everyone who attended our general PTA meeting! Your time, ideas, and involvement help make Chambers a stronger community for all students and families. If you are looking for ways to become more involved, our PTA offers a variety of opportunities to fit different interests and schedules. Whether you can help occasionally, support an event, or take on a larger role, there is a place for you. We appreciate your partnership and hope you will consider getting involved!

Beyond “How Was Your Day?”
Talking with your child about school helps you stay connected to their learning, friendships, successes, and challenges. However, questions like “How was your day?” often lead to one word answers. Each week in October I will share an open ended question you can use to encourage a more meaningful conversation about your child’s school experience.

This week, try asking:
“What is one new thing you learned today?”
You can also follow up with: “Who or what helped you learn it?”

Gratefully serving Chambers students, staff and community,
Mrs. Gann

Assistant Principal's Message

Dear Chambers Primary Families,

It was great seeing so many of our families at our first PTA meeting of the year! Your involvement and ideas make a huge difference to our school community. We also loved seeing our students' excitement during Popcorn Friday, which was a definite highlight for everyone and brought so much fun to the end of the week. Thank you for your continued partnership and for everything you do to make Chambers Primary such a wonderful place for our students to learn and grow!

In Partnership,
Ms. Catie Bartley

Panorama Survey (3rd and 4th Grade)

We will be asking for 3rd and 4th grade students to reflect on their own mindsets and approaches to learning via an online survey with Panorama. This Social Emotional Learning (SEL) survey provides us with data as we work within school committees to improve the experiences of students and families and design support systems for students.  If a student doesn’t feel like they have enough information to answer a question, they will be able to skip the item altogether. If you would like to opt your child out of this survey, please let us know by emailing or calling the contact below. The students’ individual responses to these surveys will be confidential with individual student data, or answers, only available to administrators and counselors.

Grade level or school-wide data is shared with the school board and staff to help us identify areas for improvement and areas of progress.  Panorama data is used to help us continuously improve as a system.  Guidance from school board policy leads us to help students become safe, contributing citizens who demonstrate successful social and emotional skills. Panorama is just one more tool toward these ends.

This survey will be given to 3rd and 4th grade students during Library time.

If you have any questions about the SEL survey or would like to see a copy of the survey questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at (253) 566-5650, via ParentSquare, or email at cbartley@upsd83.org.

Attendance

We excited that many of our grade levels are currently meeting our schoolwide attendance goal, 90% of students attending at least 90% of days. This week, we will launch "Beat the Bell". Once a week on a unannounced day, we will randomly draw one student per class, going one grade level at a time. If that student is present and in class when their name is called, they can head down to the office to pick a prize!
  • Tip for Families: Staying Healthy & Managing Mild Symptoms. Cold and flu season is here, but a few simple habits at home can keep your family healthy and in school! Encourage your child to wash their hands frequently with soap and water, practice coughing into their elbow, stay hydrated, and get plenty of sleep each night.
  • Need help deciding when to send your child to school and when to keep them home? Review this "When is sick too sick for school?" resource.

Social Emotional Learning

This week our regulation skill is called Trusted Adult from the "connect"  category, which focuses on co-regulation using empathy, thinking of others, and accessing relationships for support.

What is a Trusted Adult?
  • When you are worried or need to talk about something, think of the adults in your life that you trust and who make you feel comfortable?
  • Ask this person if they can listen to you.
  • Talk to them about how you are feeling and what is going on.
  • A trusted adult will help you transition through the Zones.
